Overline (SGR 53)

Category: sgr · Baseline: modern · Tags: ECMA-48 Standard · Specification ↗

ESC [ 53 m
SGR 53 draws a line above the text, the mirror image of underline. The sequence is ESC [ 53 m. Reset with SGR 55. Overline is one of the lesser-used ECMA-48 attributes and was adopted by modern terminals relatively recently. It can be useful for horizontal rules, header decoration, or combined with underline for a boxed text effect.
How this is testedautomated
Send \x1b[53mX, check for overline property on the cell.

The same probe runs against headless backends (via Termless) and real terminal apps (via a daemon launched in each terminal). This lets us distinguish parser correctness from rendering correctness.
