Auto-wrap (DECAWM)

Category: modes · Baseline: core · Tags: DEC Private Modes, VT100 · Specification ↗

ESC [ ? 7 h
DECAWM controls whether text automatically wraps to the next line when it reaches the right margin. Enable with ESC [ ? 7 h (default on), disable with ESC [ ? 7 l. When disabled, characters written past the right margin overwrite the last column. Most terminals default to auto-wrap enabled.
How this is testedautomated
Write 80+ characters, verify text wraps to the next row.

The same probe runs against headless backends (via Termless) and real terminal apps (via a daemon launched in each terminal). This lets us distinguish parser correctness from rendering correctness.
